This also updates all usages of the deprecated Val ctor to use
either IntervalVal, TimeVal, or DoubleVal ctors. The reason for
doing away with the old constructor is that using it with TYPE_INTERVAL
isn't strictly correct since there exists a more specific subclass,
IntervalVal, with overriden ValDescribe() method that ought to be used
to print such values in a more descriptive way.
This commit switches UID hashing from md5 to a highway hash. It also
moves the salt value out of the file plugin - and makes it
installation-specific instead - it is moved to the global namespace.
There now are digest hash functions to make "static"
installation-specific hashes that are stable over workers available to
everyone; hashes can be 64, 128 or 256 bits in size.
Due to the fact that we switch the file hashing algorithm, all file
hashes change.
The underlyigng algorithm that is used for hashing is highwayhash-128,
which is significantly faster than md5.
And switch Zeek's base scripts over to using it in place of
"connection_state_remove". The difference between the two is
that "connection_state_remove" is raised for all events while
"successful_connection_remove" excludes TCP connections that were never
established (just SYN packets). There can be performance benefits
to this change for some use-cases.
There's also a new event called ``connection_successful`` and a new
``connection`` record field named "successful" to help indicate this new
property of connections.
This allows one to tune the number of protocol violations to tolerate
from any given analyzer type before just disabling a given instance
of it.
Also removes the "disabled_aids" field from the DPD::Info record
since it serves no purpose: in this case, calling disable_analyzer
multiple times for the same analyzer is a no-op.
* 'ntp-rewrite' of https://github.com/mauropalumbo75/zeek: (25 commits)
update tests baseline
Apply requested changes: - file dpd.sig and TODO comments for signature protocol detection removed - missing doc field filled in events.bif - rename OpCode and ReqCode fields into op_code and req_code respectively - removed unnecessary child method in NTP.h/.cc - main.zeek and ntp-protocol.pac reformatted
minor changes in the documentation
fix some initializations
fix wrong assignment of control key_id/crypto_checksum
code clean up
add extension fields parsing
add extended mac field with 20 byte digest (+4 byte key id)
update tests and add a new one for key_id and mac
fix auth field (key_id and mac) in standard and control msg
remove old NTP record in init-bare.zeek
fix key_id and digest (WIP)
fix wrong Assign with reference_id
add tests for ntp protocol (finished)
add tests for ntp protocol (WIP)
fix problem with time vals
add ntp records to init-bare.zeek
update ntp analyzer to val_mgr
extend and refact script-side of NTP analyzer
extend and refactor several fields
...
- SMTP protocol headers now do some minimal parsing to clean up
email addresses.
- New function named split_mime_email_addresses to take MIME headers
and get addresses split apart but including the display name.
- Update tests.
The link-layer addresses are now part of the connection endpoints
following the originator-responder-pattern. The addresses are printed
with leading zeros. Additionally link-layer addresses are also extracted
for 802.11 plus RadioTap.

With this patch the model is:
- "print" cleans the data so that non-printable characters get
escaped. This is not necessarily reversible.
- to print in a reversible way, one can go through
escape_string(); this escapes backslashes as well to make the
decoding non-ambigious.
- Logging always escapes similar to escape_string(), making it
reversible.
Compared to master, we also change the escaping as follows:
- We now only escape with "\xXX", no more "^X" or "\0". Exception:
backslashes.
- We escape backlashes as "\\".
- There's no "alternative" output style anymore, i.e., fmt() '%A'
qualifier is gone.
Baselines in testing/btest are updated, external tests not yet.
Addresses BIT-1333.
This fixes the case that an SMTP session has multiple mails sent from
the originator but we miss the server's response (e.g., because we
don't see server side packets at all).
Good stuff! (but I admit I didn't look at the OpenSSL code too closely :)
* origin/topic/bernhard/even-more-ssl-changes:
small test update & script fix
update baselines & add ocsp leak check
Add policy script adding ocsp validation to ssl.log
Implement verification of OCSP replies.
Add tls flag to smtp.log. Will be set if a connection switched to startls.
add starttls support for pop3
Add smtp starttls support
Replace errors when parsing x509 certs with weirds (as requested by Seth).
move tls content types from heartbleed to consts.bro. Seems better to put them there...
Add new features from other branch to the heartbleed-detector (and clean them up).
Let TLS analyzer fail better when no longer in sync with the data stream. The version field in each record-layer packet is now re-checked.
